clinical social work & Integrative health coaching explained
Clinical Social Work is a specialty area in the profession of social work. It requires the minimum of a Master's Degree in Social Work, several years of clinically supervised practice and the successful passing of a state board licensure exam. Clinical social workers can assess, diagnose, and treat mental health disorders and behavioral concerns.
My Theoretical Perspective:
I have practiced social work in social service agencies, schools, universities and hospitals – including the Duke UMC Child Protection Team (later, Center for Child and Family Health) where I assessed and provided treatment to abused and sexually abused children. My theoretical base is integrative – drawing clinical techniques from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Family (Systems) Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and mental and physical wellness practices.
Specialty areas include:

OKAY, NATALIE, WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INTEGRATIVE HEALTH COACHING AND CLINICAL SOCIAL WORK?
In integrative health coaching we develop a partnership for change. I am responsbile for guiding the process but you are always the expert on YOU and are ultimately responsible for your change. Although there are similarities, between clinical social work and health coaching there are also important differences. I do not make diagnoses and do not bill medical insurance companies for coaching sessions.
Health coaches work with clients who are seeking to make a goal-specific positive life change and are not experiencing serious mental health distress.
If you are seeking more traditional counseling, I now have openings!
